Chỉ cảnh phải ăn phần ăn thừa, qua đó nói đến thân phận tôi tớ hoặc người ở nhờ sống khổ sở, tủi nhục. Thường dùng để gợi sự thiếu thốn và địa vị thấp kém.

Refers to having to live on leftovers, and by extension to the miserable, humiliating condition of a servant or dependent person. It is used to evoke hardship, deprivation, and low status.
